German start-up NeXR Technologies presented its fashion avatar technology, including a scanner to create a life-like avatar, at last month’s Smart Retail Tech Expo in London.

The company specialises in creating life-like avatars for everyone while building an ecosystem of avatar-based applications.

By using high-resolution body scanning, NeXR can create life-like digital replicas of shoppers and develop customised options to reduce costs of returns and waste for the fashion industry, among others.

The body scanner can be set up in stores and is self-operating, to elevate the shopper experience and make it more exciting, in-store as well as online.

Combining NeXR’s 3D body scanning technology with EyeFitU’s patented SizeEngine, the problem of the increasing number of returns on ill-fitting clothing can be addressed. Shoppers can have themselves scanned at a store, including at H&M, to create a true-to-life avatar that will be saved along with body measurements. By scanning the barcode of a garment, the shopper will receive a sizing recommendation already in the store.

Afterwards, the shopper can then continue to use their avatar to shop for the correct size online, making the joint offering of NeXR and EyeFitU omnichannel.

On NeXR’s stand at Smart Retail Tech Expo, every visitor had the opportunity to create their own life-like avatar in the body scanner. Experts led each participant through the process and answered questions about the technology.

NeXR is based in Berlin and has technological expertise in VR, AR and motion capture, while specialising in creating photorealistic life-like, avatars. It creates these avatars through proprietary scanning technology enabling the creation of a broad range of life-like avatars from low-end to high-end and game-ready digital twins. The company implements these avatars in industry-specific applications as well as digital projects such as extended reality development and live productions with motion capture technology.
