Morrison Data Services (MDS), a data services provider to the energy and water market, has been awarded a smart meter contract with UK renewable energy supplier So Energy.

MDS will deliver meter reading, data management and smart metering installation services across the midlands and the north of the UK on behalf of So Energy.

MDS expect to complete up to 125,000 installations over the full term of the contract, and provide full round-the-clock emergency coverage.

“As a Which? recommended provider and the top ranked supplier in the Citizens Advice customer service rankings, we pride ourselves in giving customers the best possible experience,” said Simon Oscroft, co-founder of So Energy. “Installing smart meters in our customers’ homes means we can go even further, making smarter decisions on our customers’ behalf, saving them more money and more carbon. That’s why we were delighted to sign this agreement with MDS.”

Founded in 1996, MDS is a provider of data and metering services to energy and water utility service providers throughout the UK and Ireland. Data retrieval, collection aggregation and processing are centrepieces for energy and water suppliers to ensure correct client billing for their consumption. The company’s workforce, vetted to DBS standards, conducts over 69m field visits a year.

“We are delighted to have added So Energy to our portfolio of contracted energy suppliers for the smart meter rollout programme,” said Nick Griffiths, director of installation services at MDS. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Morrison Data Services. With our experience within the UK energy market, we are well equipped to deliver the best service to our clients and their customers, and we particularly look forward to working with So Energy to support the delivery of SMETS2 smart installations.”
