System on module (SoM) maker Variscite has opened another production line at its facility in Hamercaz, Israel.

By increasing its manufacturing capacity, Variscite continues to serve its customers with product delivery times and meet the steadily increasing demand of the company’s products.

The added production line will also help support the expected additional demand for its two latest SoMs based on Texas Instruments’ AM62x and NXP’s i.MX93.

“Even during challenging years due to a global pandemic and economic uncertainty, Variscite has added new production lines to help our customers meet their own product development timelines,” said Ofer Austerlitz, vice president at Variscite. “This additional production line not only increases our current production capacity, it also allows us to remain flexible and robust in an uncertain market environment with a mission to best support our customers.”

Starting at only $33, the VAR-SoM-AM62, powered by TI’s AM62x, is for cost-sensitive embedded products that require low power, high performance and a GPU. It runs on the 1.4GHz quad-core Cortex-A53 AM625x with 400MHz Cortex-M4F and additional 333MHz PRU real-time co-processors. It offers connectivity options such as a camera interface, dual LVDS display, certified dual-band wifi, BT and BLE 5.2, three Can bus, dual USB, and dual GbE.

The VAR-SoM-MX93 for energy-efficient machine-learning edge devices includes features for markets such as industrial, IoT and smart devices at prices starting at $39. Powered by the 1.7GHz dual Cortex-A55 NXP i.MX93 processor, the first implementation of the Arm neural processing unit (NPU), Ethos-U65 MicroNPU, it accelerates machine-learning workloads and offers an energy-flex architecture for efficient processing. The SoM has an additional 250MHz Cortex-M33 real-time co-processor, built-in security and interfaces such as dual Can bus, dual GbE, audio in and out, camera inputs, certified dual-band wifi, BT, BLE, two USB, and several display outputs.

Both SoMs are compatible with the VAR-SoM Pin2Pin product family, allowing Variscite’s customers to scale at any point of the product lifecycle while using the same carrier board for all platforms. The Pin2Pin family provides an extended lifespan, reduced development time, costs and risks as well as scalability options from entry-level to high-performance modules.

Variscite is a SoM developer, designer and manufacturer. Founded in 2003, the company provides an Arm-based SoM portfolio for the embedded market with configuration options that cover an entire embedded product and application range. Its in-house production complies with the medical ISO13485 and ISO9001 standards.
