Japanese firm Soracom has released a data plan that delivers IoT connectivity for Brazil using a local carrier profile to ensure regulatory compliance.

Brazil is a large and growing market for IoT, but regional restrictions on permanent roaming present compliance difficulties for connected devices designed to be used in multiple countries. With PlanP2, the same Soracom IoT SIM can be used for both global multicarrier connectivity in more than 160 countries and fully-compliant 2G, 3G, 4G and NB-IoT connection in Brazil.

This approach takes advantage of Soracom’s subscription container feature, which lets users add multiple network profiles to Soracom SIM cards and eSIMs over the air (OTA). PlanP2 is compatible with card-type and chip-type SIMs (eSIMs) and can even be set to pause network access fees during inactive periods in a product lifecycle, such as transit and storage between manufacture or testing and deployment or retail. This is useful for devices that are manufactured and distributed globally, such as consumer electronics, wearables, location-based trackers and connected healthcare devices.

“Success in IoT depends on a connection you can count on,” said Kenta Yasukawa, CTO of Soracom. “Where a local profile is needed, we’re committed to making it easy with a single IoT SIM and on-demand access to the right plan over the air. PlanP2 positions our customers to deliver leading-edge connected experiences in one of the world’s most dynamic IoT markets.”

PlanP2 is now available in limited preview.
