The IoT M2M Council (IMC) will be running a panel at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on the news that the IoT has been identified as an area of focus for the US federal Lab to Market process by the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST).
 
The NIST has awarded a grant to identify the underlying IoT technology infrastructure gaps and barriers, and to recommend where future federal investments should be directed to address those barriers and accelerate adoption of the IoT in the USA.
 
This session will feature senior executives from relevant providers to consumer-driven industries and will offer an opportunity to shape an IoT-powered future with the US federal government as an enabling partner.
 
The discussion will aim to solicit input on a unified, achievable vision for the IoT, where the gaps are, and where the federal government should be investing in R&D to address those gaps. The format will be a 45-minute panel discussion, with a significant Q&A.
 
The session will be chaired by Benson Chan, senior partner for Strategy of Things and a NIST grant awardee. He will be joined on the panel by Peter Torrellas, vice president and partner for digital infrastructure and cities at Siemens. He oversees Siemens’ cities, logistics, water, buildings, air quality, and mobility portfolio in North America.
 
Also on the panel will be Gerald Kleyn, vice president for edge and IoT systems at Hewlett-Packard Enterprises (HPE). He is responsible for HPE’s edge-to-cloud products, including data-centre-grade compute, security and network integration.
 
The final panellist will be Mark Reudink, vice president for product development at Crown Castle. He evaluates emerging technologies and brings to market products that leverage assets for a US top-two cellular-tower company.
 
The panel will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 in room S228 at LVCC South.
