German healthcare insurance provider Deutsche Krankenversicherung AG (DKV), part of the Munich Re Group, has announced plans to extend the functionality of its Meine DKV (My DKV) smartphone app to include personal health data and functions from the new Federal German electronic patient record, the ePA, which has been mandated for all German citizens since 2021, with roll-out continuing across the country.

DKV has signed an agreement with IBM to work on the integration between the nationwide ePA infrastructure and DKV’s data systems.

In future, the electronic patient file should allow DKV policyholders to manage their health data, medical reports and medication plans themselves, and exchange them electronically with doctors and pharmacists.
