Indian electricity metering provider Genus Power has supplied 1.5m smart meters to state-owned utility EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd).
 
Genus Power claims to be the largest supplier of smart meters in India and is executing a big contract for EESL. EESL is helping implement the Indian government’s plan of rolling out 240 million smart meters in the next three years.
 
“As a leader in the smart metering industry, we are proud to be the first in India to achieve this figure,” said Jitendra Agarwal, joint managing director of Genus Power. “The smart meters commissioned in various states have played an important role during the Covid-19 pandemic. The nationwide lockdown and social distancing prohibited discoms [electricity distribution companies] from physically taking the monthly meter readings. All states where Genus Power smart meters were installed have been able to take readings remotely that resulted in bill generation and collection, helping discoms to sustain their operations.”
 
Riding on its installed base of more than 60 million electricity meters and domain expertise, Genus Power has embarked on an ambitious programme on smart metering in line with the government’s smart grid vision. The company is exporting its products to the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific regions.

Genus Power is a player in the power infrastructure space and is listed in the major stock exchanges of India. The company, with an annual production capacity of ten million meters, has its own in-house R&D, tool room, software and infrastructure at multiple locations.
