filancore Joins IMC, Builds Awareness of Decentralized Identities for IoT Security

London (28 January 2025): A provider of distributed ledger-based identity technology for securing connected devices – filancore – has joined the IoT M2M Council, the world’s largest association dedicated to the global IoT sector. The company’s software platform offers identity and access management for connected devices based on, World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards for decentralized identities and verifiable credentials that  secures control of communication in a decentralized, peer-to-peer fashion. The IMC has just formed a Joint Task Force with the Global Certification Forum to evaluate the development of certifications for security that would cover all layers of the IoT technology stack and filancore will participate.

“Decentralized identities and verifiable credentials enable devices to communicate directly with each other, allowing managers to control access and secure transmitted data. It fits perfectly with the IMC’s new Joint Task Force project, in that distributed ledgers-based identities will be a key method for managing secure access and trusted device data,” says Markus Soppa, Managing Director at filancore who will sit on the IMC board, “It’s an exciting project and we look forward to getting started.”

filancore has deployed its platform in edge devices, vehicle-to-vehicle communications, industrial IoT, and critical infrastructure like utilities. The platform ensures seamless identity and access management across networks, while also providing solutions for authenticity, integrity, and provenance of device data. Interactions and data points can be cryptographically validated, enabling secure third-party collaboration, streamlining audits, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

“Distributed ledger based-identity will obviously be a major component in the overall IoT security picture,” says Sri Ramachandran, IMC Chairman and CTO of device security registry provider Somos, “We welcome filancore to the IMC and appreciate their help in setting direction for our new initiative. The IMC-GCF JTF already includes major IoT technology providers and testing companies like Aeris, DEKRA, Digi International, Element Material Technologies, Eurofins, Finite State, Keyfactor, Keysight, MultiTech, Quectel, Rohde & Schwarz, SGS, Somos, Tartabit, Telit Cinterion, Thales, and Vodafone.
