Tata improves shopping at Coop Danmark

Tata Consultancy Services has extended its partnership with Danish retailer Coop Danmark to support its core business systems.

By managing Coop’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform on SAP S/4Hana, Tata will enable efficient operations for the retailer and consistent shopping experiences for customers across more than 900 stores.

Tata has been supporting Coop Danmark’s digital transformation journey and adoption of the SAP S/4Hana (www.sap.com/uk/products/erp/s4hana.html) enterprise resource planning platform for the past five years. Through this extended engagement, Tata will continue supporting Coop’s ERP to stabilise, optimise and enhance its central digital core system. To remain competitive amid macroeconomic volatilities and to attract more price-conscious shoppers, this collaboration aims to leverage technology to simplify operations and enhance the customer experience.

“We are building the Coop of the future and using the latest technology to offer a shopping experience customers will keep coming back for,” said Lars Ole Dybdal, chief technology officer at Coop Danmark. “To realise our vision, our digital transformation must continue. We are delighted to extend our strategic partnership with TCS to accelerate our journey, innovate and create value for our two million members.”

One of the largest implementations of its kind in the Nordics, the move to SAP S/4Hana has standardised business processes throughout Coop’s retail operations, from in-store operations to supply chain management. Under the extended partnership, the aim is to tap the power of machine learning, artificial intelligence and other technologies while continuing to scale up automation and innovation initiatives along with increased efficiency. This partnership should also enhance day-to-day operations and drive faster time to market, while reducing overall operating costs.

Tata and Coop (coop.dk) will work together to build capabilities required to simplify business operations to provide a better and more personalised shopping experience.

“We are proud to extend our partnership with Coop Danmark and support the critical core function of their retail business, leveraging our contextual knowledge and deep domain expertise,” said Abhijit Niyogi, business head for retail at TCS. “We look forward to integrating AI and automation in Coop’s core operations, supporting its goal to create a simpler, more sustainable business that meets the needs of every shopper.”

TCS partners with the top-ten global retailers and others across Europe and around the world to build profitable and sustainable businesses and offer immersive, unified and personalised omnichannel experiences. TCS’s portfolio of retail platforms and offerings includes TCS Omnistore (www.tcs.com/what-we-do/products-platforms/tcs-omnistore), an AI-powered, unified composable commerce platform, and TCS Optumera (www.tcs.com/what-we-do/products-platforms/tcs-optumera), an AI-powered intelligence platform that enables retailers to make optimised merchandising decisions across the value chain.

“Coop Denmark is creating the next generation retail company,” said Vikram Sharma, country head for TCS in Denmark. “Technology is key to unlocking potential and provide consumers with a smoother shopping experience. We are pleased that Coop continues to trust us to help them with their digital transformation.”

Indian company TCS (www.tcs.com) has had a presence in Denmark for the past 30 years. More than 20,000 TCS employees support enterprises in the Nordics, driving growth and transformation for some of the region’s top multinationals in sectors such as banking, financial services, insurance, telecom and hi-tech.
