Swiss retail tech firm Sensormatic, part of Johnson Controls, has deployed RFID technology across 50 Decathlon stores in Brazil.
The technology is helping improve inventory management through the supply chain to the point-of-sale, aiming to enhance the shopper experience and improve store operations.
The RFID-enabled technology is designed to provide full visibility into inventory, offering insights into the flow of merchandise, ensuring products are available in the right place and at the right time, all the way to checkout.
Sensormatic’s expertise in RFID for retail drove the development and deployment of Decathlon’s existing inventory management technologies to help create a fully RFID-enabled store, aligning with the retailer’s promise to exceed shopper’s expectations while optimising their operations.
“In addition to improving operational efficiency, RFID technology has also resulted in significant gains in inventory management,” said Kaio Andrade, regional operations manager at Decathlon in Brazil (www.decathlon.com.br). “We saw a 3% increase in inventory accuracy and a 38% increase in counting productivity compared with the same period last year. The improved traceability of products has also proven fundamental in guaranteeing the company’s rigorous quality standards.”
Part of the services that supported the architecture and integration of the RFID technology included rigorous testing, comprehensive staff training, and the installation of RFID-enabled readers and tags. Initial testing happened at Decathlon’s Paulista and Tambore locations in Sao Paulo, before expanding to include all 50 locations throughout Brazil.
Decathlon says it saw a 50% reduction in self-checkout times for shoppers, and 100% of products read instantly and accurately when placed in self-checkout bin.
“We are proud to collaborate with retailers like Decathlon who embrace innovation to drive quality retail experiences,” said Luiz Sanchez, general manager for retail in Brazil at Sensormatic. “By developing and rolling out impactful RFID supported by our professional consulting services, Decathlon can leverage a data-driven and precise approach to strengthen its operations. Decathlon will also be able to drive more use cases, like autonomous fitting rooms, that are designed to create memorable moments for shoppers.”
