Hospital gift store chain Lori’s Gifts is introducing a cashierless shopping experience in select hospitals across the USA using technology from AiFi.

California-based AiFi produces a spatial intelligence platform helping businesses deploy autonomous products. Its partnership with Lori’s Gifts sees it launch checkout-free stores for hospitals, designed to deliver streamlined convenience for hospital employees, visitors and patients.

The spatial intelligence technology is transforming the hospital gift shop experience into a fast, frictionless retail environment.

In response to the growing demand for smarter, faster retail technology within hospital environments, Lori’s Gifts is integrating cashierless store locations where customers can now gain access to gift shops round the clock. Whether it’s a nurse grabbing a snack during a break or a loved one buying a last-minute gift, the process is simple: tap a credit card at the entrance, shop freely and walk out without ever waiting in a queue. The AI technology automatically detects and tracks items selected and charges the customer’s card upon exit. This should help reduce wait times, optimise transactions and ensure visitors can quickly find what they need.

“At Lori’s Gifts, our vision is to be a trusted place for joy and support, and this partnership with AiFi helps us fulfil that vision in a meaningful way,” said Jeff Gloor, president of Lori’s Gifts (lorisgifts.com). “By leveraging their AI-powered technology, we’re able to keep stores open 24 hours a day, offering convenience when needed most. This accessibility ensures that nurses or visitors can find specific items they need at any time, without disruption. Together with AiFi, we are continuing to evolve and meet the unique needs of the hospital communities we serve, making it easier than ever to bring comfort and care.”

Lori’s Gifts has integrated AiFi’s platform with its existing systems, including real-time syncing of sales data into its ERP for efficient inventory and accounting operations. The stores also feature in-store iPads to capture customer email addresses and provide digital receipts, further enhancing the shopping experience.

“Hospitals are among the most time-sensitive environments, and our autonomous stores are designed to remove friction and offer real-time access to essentials,” said Steve Carlin, CEO of AiFi (aifi.com). “The team at Lori’s Gifts shares our commitment to creating seamless, accessible retail experiences, and, together, we’re making it easier for hospital visitors and staff to find what they need anytime, with zero friction. This collaboration represents a meaningful step in expanding the impact of cashierless technology where it can truly make a difference.”

AiFi’s autonomous shopping technology will expand to more hospital locations through its partnership with Lori’s Gifts in the coming months. The company’s expansion to hospitals builds on AiFi’s growing presence in sectors where speed, autonomy and accessibility are critical, including airports, universities and sports stadiums.
