American shoe shop chain WSS is deploying Aptos One PoS technology across more than 100 stores.

Alpharetta, Georgia-based Aptos specialises in unified commerce. Built on the Aptos One microservices-based platform, One PoS is a mobile-first application that can streamline and enhance in-store experiences for shoppers and staff and reduce the hardware footprint in each store.

Founded in 1984 and acquired by Foot Locker in 2021, WSS is a footwear, apparel and accessories retailer that offers sportswear and private label brands.

For nearly a decade, WSS has leveraged Aptos software to support its retail operations. This includes the use of Aptos to manage inventory (merchandising), engage customers (PoS, CRM), fulfil orders (OMS), audit transactions (sales audit) and analyse business performance (analytics).

“Building authentic relationships with our customers is core to who we are at WSS,” said Sarah Derba, senior director at WSS (www.shopwss.com). “With Aptos One PoS, we see an opportunity for our associates to be untethered from behind registers so they can interact freely with shoppers throughout the store. With the software on mobile devices, associates have at their fingertips all the information they need to serve customers optimally, including customer preferences and purchase history, real-time inventory information, access to promotional offers and much more. Aptos One PoS is extremely user-friendly. It combines advanced functionality with a clean UI and simplified workflows so our associates can be trained on it quickly. Customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction go hand in hand. Our investment in Aptos One is part of our commitment to provide the best experiences for employees and customers.”

In addition to WSS’s focus on satisfied customers and empowered associates, the retailer is looking ahead to the future and investing in technology architectures that will make its business adaptive to new trends and market shifts. As part of this strategy, WSS is expanding its footprint with new store openings, ensuring that more communities can benefit from its service and value.

“Tech stack agility is very important to us,” said Derba. “We must meet our customers’ needs today and react quickly as their needs change. The extensibility of the Aptos One platform gives us the flexibility to differentiate our brand and pursue new opportunities as they arise.”

In developing the platform, Aptos aligned around a core set of foundational architectural principles, including an extensibility framework with APIs and façade services, cloud-native microservices, universal omni-native services, modern devops focused on agile development, and mobile-first design focused on Apple and Android operating systems.

“With our Aptos One platform, Aptos is helping retailers break down data silos, unify front-end and back-end systems, and reinvent consumer and associate experiences,” said Jeremy Grunzweig, Aptos general manager. “WSS is an extraordinary retailer that makes a meaningful difference in the communities it operates in. We’re grateful for our long-standing partnership with WSS and excited for its next phase of retail tech innovation with Aptos One.”
