German electronics company Infineon is partnering Israeli location technology firm Deeyook to pinpoint an IoT sensor to within 10cm.
Location-as-a-service (LaaS) company Deeyook has invented and patented tracking technology to determine indoor and outdoor locations of items, assets and employees. The companies are fusing Deeyook’s precise algorithms into Infineon’s low power Airoc wifi portfolio to enable accurate, passive, ubiquitous and efficient location tracking.
Deeyook is redefining indoor and outdoor location technology through innovations in wireless signal processing, applicable to incumbent wifi, 4G and 5G modem firmware versions. The firmware extracts angles of wireless transmissions, said to be a first of its kind in the world of commercial wireless tracking.
The tracking capabilities provide location information within 10cm, passively exploiting the installed base of 1.7 billion wireless access points worldwide.
“There are many challenges when companies implement real-time location systems, primarily because tracking solutions, such as RFID, are not really ubiquitous,” said Gideon Rottem, CEO of Deeyook. “This is particularly acute with GPS, which has many shortcomings. We created Deeyook to address these challenges – technology that is ubiquitous and can track things with the utmost precision indoors, outdoors and in bad weather. We are excited to work with Infineon because its Airoc wifi portfolio is reliable, power-efficient, and they are the IoT market leader.”
Sivaram Trikutam, senior director for IoT at Infineon, added: “Infineon’s mission is to make the world an easier, safer and greener place with our technologies through smart, connected devices. These new IoT solutions support multiple location tracking technologies. Previously, wifi was not considered a viable option due to its power demands, while additionally real-time locating systems deployments required businesses to utilise custom solutions with costly infrastructure, engineering and labour-intensive installation.”
Deeyook’s technology paved the way to solve all these problems embedded in the chip. The firmware is self-learning, ubiquitous, precise, passive and low power, allowing indoor and outdoor position determination. It is based on a proprietary, patented angle-measurement technology.
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Deeyook is a privately-held, venture-backed company.
