FedEx has introduced intelligent monitoring and intervention in South Korea to elevate logistics and supply chain management by enhancing control and visibility of shipments for customers.
FedEx Surround is also available for customers in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and will soon be rolled-out to additional Apac markets.
The monitoring and intervention tools integrate seamlessly with the company’s existing transportation network, enhancing its suite of shipping and tracking. With three levels of service for customers to choose from – Select, Preferred and Premium –the tools support a wide range of industries including healthcare, aerospace and high-tech, providing critical updates and interventions that ensure the integrity and timely delivery of sensitive shipments.
The suite provides three key benefits to FedEx customers:
- Flexibility and control: The dashboard provides near real-time global visibility and predictive analytics using AI and SenseAware ID.
- Value: Handling code enhances operational capability, enabling prioritised boarding and handling, cold chain support and in- and out-of-network intervention.
- Peace of mind: Round-the-clock support ensures proactive monitoring and intervention with dedicated teams at hubs, ramps and stations, including customised reporting for customers.
“In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, supply chain visibility and agility are more important than ever,” said Wonbin Park, managing director of FedEx in South Korea. “With the Surround monitoring and intervention, we are empowering businesses in Korea to stay ahead of potential disruptions, optimise their operations, and deliver exceptional service to their customers.”
Surround uses sensor technology including SenseAware ID with near real-time data analytics to provide continuous monitoring and proactive interventions for shipments worldwide. SenseAware ID uses a lightweight, compact sensor that transmits precise package location data every two seconds via Bluetooth Low Energy to wifi access points or established gateway devices throughout the FedEx network. Packages equipped with the SenseAware ID sensor are tracked hundreds of times versus dozens of times with traditional package scanning protocols, which provides an increase in real-time data about the location of the shipment.
FedEx has a commitment to innovation demonstrated by the use of AI and machine-learning technologies within the Surround (www.fedex.com/en-kr/surround.html) system. These technologies predict potential disruptions in the shipping process, allowing FedEx and its customers to make informed decisions swiftly. Additionally, FedEx (fedex.com) offers a suite of smart digital tools including Ship Manager, Delivery Manager and Import Tool (www.fedex.com/en-kr/customs-tools/fedex-import-tool.html) to make shipping simpler, more efficient and flexible.
