Airgain, a California-based provider of wireless connectivity, has released an asset tracker for the healthcare and life sciences IoT markets.

Designed for high-value, temperature-sensitive assets, the AT-Flight is for real-time tracking across ground and air transportation, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency in cold chain logistics and other critical healthcare applications.

It combines artificial intelligence (AI) with ambient sensor technology to detect a flight event and activate airplane mode automatically to comply with FAA regulations, eliminating the need for manual intervention.

Its battery life is said to exceed that of competitors, reducing the need for frequent battery replacements, improving efficiency and lowering operating costs, while its flight-approved battery options enhance its suitability for the demands of air transportation. It can track assets in environments down to -20˚C, making it suitable for transporting temperature-sensitive medical goods such as vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

Asset tracking in the healthcare and life sciences sector is expected to grow by 13% annually until 2030. The AT-Flight has received PTCRB, FCC and DO-160 certifications, and Airgain is pursuing approvals with US and European airlines.

This product launch is part of Airgain’s strategy to expand its presence in high-value IoT markets by offering a diverse portfolio of innovative and high-performing tracking. As Airgain continues to develop IoT products for specific sectors, it aims to expand its portfolio to meet the needs of specific applications.

“Automatic flight detection in the AT-Flight is a great opportunity for Airgain asset trackers to simplify the user experience while ensuring compliance with airline industry requirements and best practices,” said Joe Porrazzo, director at Airgain. “I am also pleased to announce that we have already received the initial purchase order from a leading healthcare provider, and we will begin volume shipments of AT-Flight units in Q1 2025.”

Airgain’s asset trackers (www.airgain.com/asset-tracking-solution) use a range of location services, including GPS and real-time cellular and wifi triangulation. With various customisable options, the asset trackers help users find a configuration.

Airgain (airgain.com) provides wireless connectivity through a range of embedded components, external antennas and integrated systems worldwide. It is headquartered in San Diego, California.
