Landis+Gyr is supplying Arkansas utility Woodruff Electric Cooperative with grid analytics software as a service.

The aim is to maintain accurate meter-transformer mapping, assess transformer loading performance, identify abnormal meter consumption trends and event sequences, and get periodic system-level loading and loss reports.

The grid analytics package is part of Landis+Gyr’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) for utilities and hosts AMI data with the company. The SaaS agreement allows Woodruff Electric to process data nightly and access the latest results every morning via a web portal and automated email notifications.

The analytics provided range from meter-specific to transformer fleet and system-level results to manage capacity bottlenecks, maintain good power quality, and be made aware of anomalies reported by meters.

“We are using advanced grid analytics to increase the value of our AMI data for revenue protection, demand response verification, transformer loading and voltage mapping across the distribution system,” said James McMahan, AMI manager at Woodruff Electric. “Our goal is continuing to improve power quality and operational efficiency for our members.”

Based in Forrest City, Arkansas, Woodruff Electric provides electric service to 20,000 members across seven counties in east-central Arkansas.

“Our SaaS offering for analytics is a great fit for utilities that want to get more value from smart grid data without having to manage the IT resources in-house,” said Jim Richardson, senior director of sales at Landis+Gyr. “This is a cost-effective way for small and midsize utilities to access distribution system analytics for improved reliability, day-to-day maintenance and planning.”

Landis+Gyr offers three cloud-based grid analytics packages priced and designed for utilities with less than 100,000 meters that cover voltage performance, pattern detection, energy diversion, capacity contribution and transformer loading performance.

Landis+Gyr is a Switzerland-based provider of integrated energy management for the utility sector. It helps utilities solve complex problems in smart metering, grid edge intelligence and smart infrastructure. With sales of $1.4bn in 2020, Landis+Gyr employs approximately 5000 people in over 30 countries across five continents.
