Indian electricity meter manufacturer HPL Electric and Power is partnering Finnish RF mesh technology specialist Wirepas Oy. The partnership aims to support HPL’s expansion as the smart metering market in India takes off.
According to HPL, the company’s recent announcement of smart meter orders valued under World Bank Funding of 4,168 million Indian Rupees illustrates the potential of the smart meter market in India. These orders align with state-led schemes like the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), reflecting HPL’s focus on the smart meter sector and its ability to meet growing demand.
Simultaneous roll-outs in the Indian market have created a demand peak for smart meters and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) solutions. HPL must meet stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to fulfil tender requirements and exceed the expectations of electricity distribution utilities. Wirepas partners have consistently delivered 99.9% SLAs, establishing their reliability with over 50 utilities worldwide. Through this joint collaboration, HPL and Wirepas aim to ensure the successful implementation of smart meter roll-outs in India.
Teppo Hemiä, CEO of Wirepas, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “HPL is a well-known and highly valued brand among utility customers in India. We are excited to collaborate with HPL and assist them in offering a high-performance Radio Frequency (RF) Mesh solution tailored for the Indian market.”
The Managing Director of HPL Electric, Mr Rishi Seth, said “I am glad to announce that our partnership with Wirepas will facilitate the timely and dependable implementation of the Government of India’s ambitious RDSS smart metering initiatives throughout the nation. With the integration of this cutting-edge technology, HPL is poised to attain self-sufficiency in all communication aspects of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). This milestone signifies a crucial stride in alignment with the ‘Make in India’ initiative championed by the esteemed Prime Minister of India.
Furthermore, we envision the potential for extending this technology’s reach beyond electricity metering, with possibilities for adaptation in the domains of Gas and Water Metering. Our commitment extends to exploring opportunities in emerging global markets as well.”
