One Grid Operation has purchased GE Vernova’s GridOS orchestration software to help Norway’s distribution system operators Tensio and Linea more efficiently manage their electricity supply and operations.

GridOS is a portfolio comprised of a platform and suite of applications enabling secure, reliable grid orchestration while delivering the resiliency and flexibility utilities need to modernise and transform to a more sustainable energy grid.

One Grid Operation is owned by Tensio and Linea. By selecting GridOS, One Grid Operation will have access to a built-in zero-trust security model to help protect resources from inside and outside threats.

Grid-specific data fabric enables operators to integrate traditionally siloed data across OT, IT and external sources such as the weather. This provides the foundation for utilities to use artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI and ML) to automate grid operations, which is likely to prove crucial to adopting renewables at scale. GridOS data fabric builds on GE Vernova’s acquisition of Greenbird Integration Technology in 2023.

One Grid Operation plans to implement GE Vernova’s ADMS advanced distribution management system for secure management of the distribution grid and DERMS distributed energy resource management system for managing a broad array of distributed energy resources (DERs), such as wind power, battery storage and electric vehicles.

One Grid Operation plans to implement GE Vernova’s GridOS (www.gevernova.com/software/products/gridos) orchestration software over the next three years. The company has chosen to use a hybrid cloud strategy, with ADMS deployed on-premise and the other GridOS applications running in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. This strategy helps enable One Grid Operation to meet energy demands with greater speed and agility by unlocking data, increasing visibility, and accelerating decision-making.

Once the implementation is complete, the company will deliver grid control room services to Tensio and Linea.

“This is a big and important milestone for us,” said Anna Nysetvold, CEO of One Grid Operation. “I look forward to embarking on this journey with Tensio and Linea’s skilled teams and in close collaboration with GE Vernova.”

Tensio and Linea formed One Grid Operation to improve the supply of electricity in Norway. Tensio is the country’s third largest power grid company and operates the regional and distribution network in the central county of Trøndelag. Linea is responsible for delivering power to over 46,700 users in Helgeland in northern Norway.

“The energy landscape is getting more complex by the day,” said Audhild Kvam, CEO of Tensio (www.tensio.no), and Steinar Benum, CEO of Linea (www.linea.no) in a joint statement. “Demand for electricity is at an all-time high, extreme weather events are becoming more common, and renewable but intermittent energy sources are on the rise. To deal with these types of change drivers while continuing to deliver on the efficiency and security of our supply, we clearly see the need to significantly strengthen ourselves on the technology side. After a lengthy market assessment, we’re pleased to announce we’ve selected GE Vernova to support us in enabling smarter, better, more efficient management of our electricity supply and operations in the years to come.”

Mahesh Sudhakaran, general manager of GE Vernova’s grid software business, added: “GE Vernova is delivering a new era of energy, and a key tenant of how we’re doing that is with our GridOS orchestration software. We’re proud to be the technology partner of choice for One Grid Operation. Our data integration team in Oslo and global power system experts look forward to advancing capabilities that’ll help Tensio and Linea deliver more secure, reliable and sustainable electricity to their customers.”
