Telensa and Ligman are working together to provide smart street lighting and smart city sensing for the Asia-Pacific market.

The partnership will combine Ligman’s efficient architectural street and area lighting with Telensa’s smart street lighting and smart city sensing.

UK firm Telensa and Thailand-based Ligman have signed a partnership agreement to combine aesthetic LED luminaires and wireless controls. With energy and carbon reduction increasingly in the forefront of many cities’ agendas, switching lighting to LED is an obvious step. Including wireless controls increases the benefits of LEDs, generating energy and maintenance cost-savings, and future-proofing further smart city sensing.

“Cities across Asia Pacific are increasingly adopting wireless controls,” said Will Gibson, chief commercial officer at Telensa. “Over the past couple of years, Telensa has deployed smart street lighting in Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. Partnering with Ligman will satisfy the industry’s need for high-end luminaires and wireless controls in a market where true commitment is being shown to the promise of smart city technologies.”

Ligman, founded in 1995, designs, manufactures and distributes high efficiency, quality outdoor lighting products globally.

“We are pleased to be working with Telensa, the market leader in smart street lighting,” said Sakchai Manawongsakul, Ligman president and group CEO. “Together we will be able to offer a turnkey smart solution to the benefit of cities across the region.”

Telensa makes wireless smart city applications, helping cities around the world save energy, work smarter and deliver more joined-up services for their citizens. Telensa Planet is said to be the world’s most deployed smart streetlight technology, with a footprint of 1.8 million lights. Urban IQ builds on the business case for smart street lighting to provide cities and utilities with an open, low-cost platform to add multiple sensor applications.

Working with Microsoft and Samsung in the Urban Data Project, Telensa is helping cities build future-proof operations driven by data intelligence, trust and transparency. Telensa is based in Cambridge in the UK, with regional operations in the USA and Australia.
