Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) has awarded TransCore a contract to install its Infinity Digital Lane System with advanced video analytics for vehicle detection and identification at Sydney’s new Western Harbour Tunnel.
The system, set to be completed in 2027, will eliminate the need for roadside tags and transponders, simplifying account management and integrating more seamlessly with TfNSW’s transport technology ecosystem. The contract marks TransCore’s first tolling deployment in Australia.
TransCore’s Infinity technology uses video analytics with overhead detection to identify and classify vehicles at highway speeds, reducing the need for manual intervention while increasing accuracy and lowering operating costs. The system will also integrate with TfNSW’s existing back-office systems to enhance operational efficiency and interoperability.
The Western Harbour Tunnel project will be first to deploy tagless, video-only tolling in Australia. The tunnel, set to open in 2028, will connect the Rozelle Interchange to the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney, improving journey times and easing congestion on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
