SplitSec AI has developed a mobile application that uses real-time, on-device AI to detect gunshots and send automatic alerts to emergency contacts.
The machine learning model in the app analyses sounds locally on the user’s smartphone, without transmitting audio data externally. This ensures both immediate response times and strong data protection. SplitSec says this makes it one of the first consumer-friendly, AI-driven gunshot detection solutions designed for everyday people.
The app is currently in alpha development. SplitSec AI plans to roll out a public beta later in autumn, with a full release slated for early 2026.
“SplitSec alerts you when every second counts,” said Sridhar Deivasigamani, Founder and CEO of SplitSec AI. “People are often unaware that a shooting is happening, wasting precious time. Using their smartphone, our technology alerts them immediately, potentially saving their life. We’re honoured to stand alongside other Chicago innovators who are pushing boundaries to enhance quality of life for all human beings.”
“We built a cell phone-based AI model that detects gunshots in under a second with no extra hardware, and no internet. Trained on 30,000+ real-world sounds, it reliably detects gunshots in the background,” said Viet Nguyen, Chief Engineer AI/ML at SplitSec AI. Unlike traditional systems or camera-based monitoring, SplitSec AI is privacy-first. “No recordings are transmitted to the cloud. Our patents reflect that – we are about your safety, not surveillance,” said Cheng-Ning Jong, Patent & IP Counsel at SplitSec AI.
