SkyDrive, a Japanese eVTOL aircraft manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), a government organisation overseeing transportation in Abu Dhabi. The partnership aims to establish an eVTOL ecosystem and develop infrastructure for the “SKYDRIVE” aircraft.

The ITC plans to introduce the SKYDRIVE as a means of transportation in Abu Dhabi, marking a key step towards commercial eVTOL operations. SkyDrive and ITC will focus on three areas: developing an eVTOL ecosystem, building vertiports and charging stations, and conducting feasibility studies for commercialisation.

“Abu Dhabi’s proactive approach and commitment to innovation make it an ideal partner as we work toward our vision of making the sky a part of everyday transportation,” said Tomohiro Fukuzawa, CEO of SkyDrive.

Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General at ITC, added that the partnership reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to adopting autonomous-driving and advanced air mobility technologies.

The collaboration is part of Abu Dhabi’s initiative to become a global leader in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM). The city aims to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework, infrastructure planning, and feasibility studies for eVTOL operations.

SkyDrive has been working with civil aviation authorities in Japan and the US to obtain certification for its “SKYDRIVE” aircraft. The company plans to launch commercial services in 2028.
