Morocco’s capital city Rabat is planning to install an advanced video surveillance system to enhance urban security. The system will use AI and deep learning, and is the subject of a tender issued by the city’s Development Company.

This project is planned to be ready for operation before the end of this year. The city aims to establish a surveillance network that includes smart cameras capable of facial recognition and reading automatic license plates for cars.

The project is divided into two main parts. The first is related to the preparation of command centres and data centres. Two main command centres will be established to manage the system. Independent data centres compatible with international standards will ensure secure and robust infrastructure.

The second part of the project concerns the deployment of a video surveillance system in various areas of Rabat. This will include the installation of various types of cameras, including facial recognition cameras, PTZ cameras, and long-range cameras. The system relies on a modern network infrastructure using optical fibres and CAT 6A cables, along with integrated servers capable of processing and analysing videos in real time using artificial intelligence technologies.

The tender has been issued by the Rabat Region Development Company.
