Oman and ST Engineering partner on Smart Cities

Oman Broadband Company and Singapore-based ST Engineering’s Urban Solutions business are collaborating on smart city initiatives in Oman. The collaboration will support the digital transformation objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The two companies will focus on developing an advanced digital infrastructure that meets future requirements. They will also develop solutions to improve quality of life for residents and enhance the sustainability of the Sultanate.

Under the Programme, Oman Broadband Company and ST Engineering Urban Solutions will collaborate on smart city initiatives to enhance urban and community development in Oman.

Oman Broadband will provide fibre-optic infrastructure to enable digital transformation. ST Engineering Urban Solutions will contribute its expertise in the areas of smart mobility, smart utilities and smart city operations platforms.

Through this collaboration, Oman Broadband Company aims to enhance its leadership in the telecommunications and digital infrastructure sector, paving the way for a more advanced and sustainable technological future in the Sultanate.

The programme comes as part of the Sultanate’s efforts to support its vital sectors with the latest smart technologies. The aim is to make the Sultanate of Oman a regional hub for technology and knowledge.

Commenting on the Cooperation Programme, Eng. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Wahaibi, CEO of Oman Broadband Company, said “The Cooperation Programme with ST Engineering Urban Solutions represents a significant step towards developing the digital infrastructure in Oman. This programme aims to accelerate digital transformation by sharing technology and knowledge to the Sultanate of Oman, which in turn contributes to achieving qualitative leaps in the fields of smart cities and innovative technical solutions.”

According to Al Wahaibi, this cooperation programme serves as a critical starting point for developing advanced technologies to ensure the sustainability of cities in Oman. Implementation of smart systems for managing energy, data, and digital infrastructure are seen as essential components of the programme. Al Wahaibi said this partnership focuses not only on technological advancement but on empowering Omani human resources to acquire new skills which in turn helps in positioning Oman as a regional hub for technical innovation.
