Digital disinfection specialist MASSPHOTON has partnered Hong Kong’s Sino Inno Lab to deploy its NitroSterix digital air sterilisation system at one of Hong Kong’s largest commercial and business inside environments, China Hong Kong City.
The MASSPHOTON air sterilisation system employs active UVC-LED disinfection technology that has enabled a very large business, transport and commercial hub to operate with greatly reduced viral and environmental contaminants.
CHKC, built on the sites of a former Royal Naval dockyard and a maritime terminus to mainland China, is a mixed commercial, shopping, business and transport complex that receives tens of thousands of visitors a day. The complex viewed traditional air purification methods as insufficient for their requirements. This drove CHKC and Sino Inno Lab to join forces with MASSPHOTON for an advanced solution.
MASSPHOTON deployed its ceiling-mounted UVC-LED air sterilisers, specifically models Q6060B1 and Q6060D, which feature the company’s proprietary NitroSteriX digital disinfection technology. This approach is a shift from passive filtration and disinfection methods towards proactive, digitally managed sterilisation.
NitroSteriX employs semiconductor-based ultraviolet-C (UVC) LEDs, combined with optical designs and IoT-driven intelligent controls. These help ensure effective, eco-friendly, and ozone-free sterilisation.
Within 24 hours, formaldehyde (HCHO) concentrations in critical areas dropped from 1060 μg/m³ to as low as 40 μg/m³, approximately a 96% reduction. Total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) decreased from 1090 μg/m³ to approximately 190 μg/m³, representing an 83% reduction.
Despite the inherently dynamic and challenging environment of commercial spaces, the system maintained PM2.5, HCHO, and TVOC concentrations at very low levels.
Dr Eason Liao, CEO of MASSPHOTON, said, “The successful implementation at China Hong Kong City illustrates how cutting-edge digital disinfection transforms indoor air quality management. Our proprietary NitroSteriX technology, integrated with intelligent IoT-driven monitoring, significantly enhances operational efficiency while providing occupants with a consistently safe and comfortable environment.”
Ms Melanie Kwok, Deputy General Manager, Sustainability and Innovation at Sino Group, said, “At Sino Inno Lab, we are constantly exploring innovations that can elevate building performance and promote wellbeing. MASSPHOTON’s UVC-LED air disinfection solution aligns with our mission to test and adopt smart, sustainable technologies that bring tangible value to our properties and the communities they serve. The successful deployment at China Hong Kong City reflects the potential of collaborative innovation in shaping healthier, future-ready spaces.”
