The German city of Hanau in Germany’s Frankfurt Rhine Metropolitan Region has expanded its smart city mission statement. In addition to thirteen existing smart city lighthouse projects, the new mission statement adds six fields of action.

The new “Stadtwandel.digital” mission statement includes six central fields of action: urban life, economy and work, mobility and energy, knowledge and education, culture, sport and leisure, and health and social affairs.

The city has created a new IT board to help manage its smart city programme. The city’s Office for Digitalisation and Organisational Development is responsible for implementing the projects. The city’s IT subsidiary, BHG.IT, holds responsibility for technical implementation. The IT board will make key decisions about selection of hardware and software, and will include the finance and digitalisation departments.

The new Stadtwandel.digital mission statement comes into effect from December 17th 2024.
