The Grand Island Central School District in the State of New York has re-extended its contract with ZeroEyes, a company that provides an AI-based gun detection system. The district originally deployed the system in 2022 as part of a broader safety strategy.

According to data, the district serves approximately 2,800 students across six schools. The renewed contract marks the continuation of a three-year deployment of ZeroEyes’ AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness solution.

The system layers onto existing digital security cameras, using artificial intelligence to detect guns and instantly share images with a dedicated operations centre. If a threat is confirmed, alerts are dispatched to local law enforcement and school administration within 3-5 seconds.

“We’re honoured that Grand Island Central School District continues to trust our technology,” said Mike Lahiff, CEO of ZeroEyes, in a statement.

Grand Island is close to the US border with Canada. It has an average crime rate for the United States, and below the average for New York State. It has a violent crime rate that is well below the US national average.

ZeroEyes’s AI gun detection system has received the full US Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation.
