Aínsa, a major Spanish tourist destination, is set to become a smart city. The city is a former royal capital in Aragon, an autonomous region of Spain and one of the two original constituent kingdoms of the Spanish state.
The city is implementing smart technology including a smart parking system that will allow drivers to find free parking spaces in real time. The system, from Embou, Mas Orange and Innovasur, is in the training phase and is expected to be put into operation in the coming weeks.
Large LED screens already installed in the city will show the occupancy level of the seven car parks in the city. This will drivers to know where they can park and where there are no spaces available. IoT sensors detect empty parking spaces and share information instantly.
There are also 17 optical sensors that help control the capacity of the car parks and manage and optimise traffic. A control centre has been installed in the town hall to manage traffic. The city has also established electric charging points for scooters and bicycles
At the control centre for storing and viewing images, the system will provide real-time information on traffic. The control centre will not only analyse traffic flows but also analyse flows of pedestrians especially in busy tourist areas and visiting the historic city centre.
The city plans to use AI to identify vehicles, optimise parking and traffic flows. The AI system is currently undergoing training in the city. The system is expected to be operational by the end of March.
