Irish firm Trane Technologies has acquired BrainBox AI, a Canadian pioneer in autonomous HVAC controls and generative artificial intelligence (AI) building technology.
BrainBox AI uses deep learning algorithms to predict building energy needs and automate HVAC systems, thus reducing energy consumption by up to 25% and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 40%.
The acquisition builds on the companies’ existing collaboration and combines BrainBox’s AI technology with Trane’s building management and digital capabilities to meet fast-growing demand for sustainable, autonomous buildings.
“We are delighted to officially welcome BrainBox AI associates as we further expand upon our companies’ complementary capabilities, technology and offerings,” said Riaz Raihan, senior vice president of Trane Technologies. “We look forward to bringing our teams and technologies closer together as we help customers meet their business and sustainability goals through the power of AI and smart building technologies.”
BrainBox AI CEO Sam Ramadori and chief technology officer Jean-Simon Venne will continue to lead the BrainBox business, primarily based in Canada and the USA. All BrainBox AI staff will join Trane. Trane Technologies will maintain BrainBox AI’s existing operations in Montreal, contributing to the region’s AI ecosystem to accelerate AI innovation globally.
“At BrainBox AI, we believe in the power of AI in addressing climate change,” said Ramadori. “Combining BrainBox AI’s advanced technology with Trane Technologies’ leading digital platform and best-in-class global direct sales capabilities will accelerate the deployment of smart buildings worldwide and achieve greater outcomes for our people, customers and the world. We look forward to an exciting new chapter for BrainBox AI as part of Trane Technologies.”
BrainBox recently launched the Aria (artificial responsive intelligent agent) virtual building engineer that delivers precise and accurate data visualisation, sound reasoning, and informed actions for facility management.
