Chinese home robotics company Roborock has, through a firmware update, added Matter capability to several of its robot vacuum cleaners.
The Matter protocol is a smart-home standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), designed to unify devices across different brands and platforms. As an early adopter of Matter, Roborock says it remains committed to platform interoperability and ensures its robot vacuums can safely communicate with other smart-home devices.
Roborock models are receiving the firmware update this week. The upgrade will be a major expansion of the Matter protocol support on Roborock devices that should enhance the user experience. Users are recommended to wait for the update to arrive, as exact timing will depend on different time zones. The devices receiving Matter functionality this month are S8 MaxV Ultra, Saros Z70, Saros 10, Saros 10R, Qrevo Curv, Qrevo Edge and Qrevo Master.
Owners of these Matter-compatible devices, including the latest Saros series, will enjoy enhanced connectivity with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
This will let users control compatible Roborock robot vacuum cleaners with the Home app on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod or Mac running the latest firmware.
Specific Matter-related functionality may vary not only by Roborock device, but also by ecosystem. Roborock will keep upgrading its Matter-related firmware on a continuous basis to enhance user experience as it works with all major platforms that integrate Matter.
Roborock (global.roborock.com) says it remains committed to broadening Matter (csa-iot.org/all-solutions/matter) compatibility across its product line. The company plans to extend support to the S8 Max Ultra (global.roborock.com/pages/roborock-s8-max-ultra) and Qrevo Slim (global.roborock.com/pages/roborock-qrevo-slim) in the upcoming weeks and months, with more models coming soon.
After installing on the Roborock S8MaxV Ultra, a Works With Apple Home certified Roborock product, users can control it on the Home app, and add it to custom automations, such as cleaning the living room every day at 2pm, or ask Siri to “clean the kitchen” hands-free.
