Panasonic helps with Matter certification

Japanese technology company Panasonic wants to help companies navigate the route to Matter compliance.
At this month’s Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Chetan Joshi, lead product manager at Panasonic, said the goal was to “democratise Matter” for large and small companies.
“What we are trying to do is have working modules with Bluetooth, Thread and wifi,” he said. “This provides the baseline entry. Any customer that wants to make a Matter-compatible device will have a module with all three together on the same place.”
The goal, he said, was to work with the industry so Matter could stay relevant in the long term. All the Matter companies must follow certain standards whether they are making a smart fridge or television.
“They need to follow the rules to be with Matter,” said Joshi. “But many don’t know how to do this. So we are democratising Matter for small and large customers. They can order modules from us that have the necessary certification so they can get their product Matter approved.”
This is part of the company’s Pan-Max offering, a single window multi-tier service for Matter projects.
“We can take away the effort for customers who don’t know how to do this,” said Joshi. “Before Matter, the smart home market was very fragmented, but was still solid. People are now learning about Matter. The general excitement about Matter is now peaking. Now we can help them by taking care of their Matter certification.”
He said this was a two-way process, with the company seeing people coming to them about Matter and Panasonic reaching out to companies to help them.
“People were a little overwhelmed when they first heard of Matter,” he said. “But now that the baseline behaviour of Matter has been defined, more people are thinking about it. We can step in and help make their appliances like robot vacuum cleaner Matter compliant.”
Pan-Max has three tiers depending on the type of help companies need, starting with basic Matter certification on Panasonic (www.panasonic.com/global/industry) modules to full access to a CSA-approved Matter testing provider.
