Nokia has launched two new Wifi 7 gateways to deliver reliable fast broadband to support smart-home application in every corner of the house.

The entry level Beacon 4 and mid-tier Beacon 9 offer gigabit speeds over wifi for supporting the expanding demands of streaming, online gaming, video, smart home and security applications in the home.

As XGS-PON and 25G PON services grow, wifi upgrades are essential to delivering multi-gigabit speeds into homes. Nokia’s Beacon 4 and 9 are designed for this purpose, allowing service providers to offer an affordable, best-in-class Wifi 7 experience for the masses.

Incorporating Wifi 7’s full capabilities, the dual-band Beacon 4 gateway (www.nokia.com/fixed-networks/home-wi-fi/wifi-beacon-4) delivers 3.6Gbit/s speeds over wifi while the tri-band Beacon 9 gateway (www.nokia.com/fixed-networks/home-wi-fi/wifi-beacon-9) delivers 9.4Gbit/s speeds that help eliminate slowdowns and buffering issues. Both are powered by Nokia’s Corteca software which allows operators to create and monetise better broadband experiences.

“Wifi 7 is a pivotal new technology that will power the connected home of the future,” said Dirk Verhaegen, head of broadband devices at Nokia (www.nokia.com). “Operators can now make Wifi 7 a reality for customers, with two new affordable options that ensure multi-gigabit speeds are delivered to every corner of the home for the ultimate experience.”

The gateways expand Nokia’s portfolio of Wifi 7 devices (www.nokia.com/fixed-networks/home-wi-fi), which now include the Beacon 4, 9, 19 and 24 models, each designed to meet the varying demands of operators and end-users globally.

“As the connected home ecosystem grows increasingly complex, Wifi 7 emerges not just as a technological upgrade, but as a strategic necessity,” said Alzbeta Fellenbaum, practice leader at consultancy Omdia (omdia.tech.informa.com). “To unlock the full market potential of Wifi 7, it is essential to accelerate its availability across a wider range of devices. Expanding access while preserving opportunities for service providers to differentiate and monetise premium offerings will be key to driving adoption at scale and delivering the elevated experience consumers expect.”

Nokia and Andorix (www.andorix.com), a provider of digital infrastructure and smart building technology for real estate properties, have announced a partnership to accelerate the adoption of private 5G networks and neutral host networks in the real-estate market across the USA and Canada.
