Canadian firm Nanoleaf has become the first company to put Matter smart lighting products on the market.

It is taking pre-orders for two Matter-compatible smart lights – an A19 bulb and lightstrip. They are part of the Nanoleaf Essentials range and work with Matter over Thread for seamless setup and control. They offer crisp white lighting and rich RGB colours for setting the ambience on days when an extra bit of colour is needed.

The Matter-certified Essentials bulbs and lightstrips can help light up an entire home with a simplified setup, seamless controls and personalised automations that work across platforms and multiple devices.

With Matter, users are no longer restricted to certain platforms or having to check which devices are compatible; all Matter-certified devices work seamlessly together regardless of the brand or manufacturer.

Setting up and controlling the lights is also easier with Matter. Users choose their preferred smart home platform to customise their lighting and make adjustments from multiple devices via Matter’s multi-admin capabilities, allowing everyone in the household to personalise the lighting to suit their needs.

The Essentials Matter line runs over Thread to offer fast speeds and robust reliability for a smart home using a mesh network. Users can illuminate their living room, office space, bedroom, kitchen and entertainment areas with a full range of white lighting at colour temperatures from 2700 to 6500K and up to 2200 lumens, and over 16 million colours, using a smart home app such as Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings.

The Nanoleaf app provides more detailed customisations, playing scenes such as “Be Productive” for working from home, or “Starlight” to help set the ambience in the evenings. Users can even turn on circadian lighting to have the colour temperature of the lights automatically adjust throughout the day, removing blue light as the day turns into night to help regulate a body’s natural rhythm and prepare it for more restful sleep.

“We’re so excited to not only launch our first Matter products, but to be the first company to offer Matter over Thread smart lighting to users today,” said Nanoleaf CEO Gimmy Chu. “Our team is dedicated to creating a truly smart experience that is seamless, intelligent and ultimately makes everyday life easier, and we believe that Matter is the first step towards achieving that goal.”

Nanoleaf’s existing modular light panels and light bars will also receive an OTA update later this year to become Matter-compatible.
