Global decarbonization efforts need to ramp up dramatically over the next decade if we want to make our aggressive, international Net-Zero goals. As such, Mahindra announced this month that a partnership with Johnson controls has occurred to collaborate on a Net-Zero Building Initiative to decarbonize buildings across India.
This effort is targeted at commercial, residential, and industrial buildings and is meant to be an out-of-the-box, seamless experience. Each building owner as part of the Net-Zero Building Initiative an all-in-one toolkit to help building owners learn best practices, use assessment tools to help identify and implement conservation efforts, and better understand the country’s building regulations. This is a massive step in the direction of decarbonization and makes it easy for new buildings to join the effort, too.
There is a boom in building buildings in India right now and Mahindra and Johnson Controls are at the forefront of helping to provide facility and building owners not only the tools for decarbonization, but support to make the mind shift required to reaching Net-Zero goals.
In a press release from Johnson Controls, George Oliver, Chairman & CEO of Johnson controls said: “The joining together of our two companies to develop this unique initiative is a natural fit—leveraging Johnson Controls’ leadership in smart building technology and Mahindra’s renowned multi-industry expertise and reach. We believe it will help guide and inspire a movement toward a more sustainable built environment, both in India and beyond.”
Oliver’s thinking is sound. The built environment is undergoing a revolution of sorts throughout the world as sustainability and decarbonization stay on top of mind. Building monitoring solutions and other tools will become critical to help manage the new built landscape, especially if we want to collectively decarbonize.
For Mahindra, Chief Group Public Affairs Officer and Group Executive Board Member, Abanti Sankaranarayanan, “At Mahindra, we strongly believe in operating as a ‘Planet Positive’ organization. The group has undertaken multiple initiatives to decarbonize our operational infrastructure—leading to both financially and environmentally value accretive outcomes. We also understand the critical role of collaboration in accelerating a sustainable future, and hence join hands with Johnson Controls, leaders in [Net-Zero] building solutions, to share our learnings and best practices with everyone.”
Over the next year, the Net-Zero Building Initiative will go on a roadshow and engage the public, think tanks, building and facility owners and more about this one-of-a-kind approach to building technology with purpose.
