California-based smart-home security company Arlo Technologies has announced Secure 5 powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The firm’s proprietary AI technology includes custom detections, vehicle recognition and person recognition.

“Arlo continues to lead the industry with our advanced AI and computer vision capabilities, including custom detections, vehicle recognition and person recognition, that deliver even more peace of mind to Arlo users,” said Matthew McRae, CEO of Arlo. “Our relentless focus on smart-home security backed by our commitment to also protect our customers’ data and privacy will continue to drive more industry-first innovations that customers can trust to safeguard their loved ones.”

Leveraging computer vision (CV), AI and recognition engines, Secure 5 provides more detailed alerts so users can make informed decisions about their security and safety. It introduces the following AI-powered innovations:

  • Person recognition: Know exactly who has arrived with personalised alerts labelled with names from the user’s private library of named faces.
  • Vehicle recognition: Protect driveways with personalised alerts labelled with known vehicles that have been previously named.
  • Custom detection: Train Arlo AI to create personalised, custom detections to protect what matters. Teach the camera to recognise certain objects or changes in view to trigger custom notifications. Whether it’s knowing if the garage door is open, lights were left on in the basement or the dog is on the couch, the AI alerts users to what is happening in and around the home so they know what action to take.

Subscription plans (www.arlo.com/en-us/arlosecure.html) for unlimited cameras start at $13 a month and offer the ability to:

  • View, save and share: 30 days of video cloud storage and events available from anywhere.
  • Personalised security: Tools help filter unwanted notifications and create zones for customised alerts.
  • Take quicker action: Meaningful notifications allow users to know what’s happening without opening the app. Quicker action can be taken by responding to notifications or an animated video preview can be viewed through the device’s lock screen.
  • Detect objects: Recognise packages, animals, known people and vehicles through object detection backed by AI.
  • Get help fast: Round-the-clock emergency response means police, fire and medical help is one tap away.
  • Leave it to the professionals: Get a helping hand with live security experts that monitor the home round the clock.
