Smart label firm Trackonomy has acquired fellow Californian company InPlay, a developer of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) chip technology, with applications spanning healthcare, gaming, logistics and broader wireless IoT markets.
“Our NanoBeacon SoC technology – the purpose-built chips for smart labels – has seen massive market interest,” said Jason Wu, CEO of InPlay. “With Trackonomy’s financial backing, know-how, resources and vast IP portfolio, we are able to better service our existing and future customers while continuing to function as an independent entity.”
Eight years ago, Trackonomy spearheaded the smart label market and, since then, has grown behind the screens to power many IoT, hardware and software companies in logistics, healthcare, industrial, as well as government to solve some of the most complex problems for their customers.
“The InPlay NanoBeacon SoC is the only custom-built chipset designed for smart labels,” said Erik Volkerink, CEO of Trackonomy. “Acquiring InPlay expands our customer base and accelerates our mission to enable the smart label ecosystem.”
InPlay developed the NanoBeacon technology enabling a new generation of smart labels with low power consumption, low cost and high-volume scalability. Purpose-built for smart label applications yet flexible enough to support diverse wireless IoT use cases, NanoBeacon technology (inplay-tech.com/technology) represents years of dedicated R&D, engineering breakthroughs and close collaboration with users. Its performance, efficiency and ease of integration have earned it widespread market trust and recognition, establishing NanoBeacon as a flagship within InPlay’s broader portfolio of SoC products.
Trackonomy Systems (trackonomy.ai) has 800 employees and more than 100% revenue CAGR since 2019. It has raised $250m from 8VC and other investors, such as Kleiner Perkins, Koch Disruptive Technologies, Flexport, Hewlett Packard and Dell.
Headquartered in Irvine, California, with a global team of about 20 employees, InPlay (inplay-tech.com) has built a reputation for ingenuity, agility and the ability to anticipate evolving market needs, from pioneering low-power wireless technologies to advancing IoT integrations and refining Bluetooth for greater efficiency.
