Telit 5G modules using AI unveiled at MWC

Telit Cinterion launched at this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona AI-powered 5G modules and data cards using Qualcomm modems.

Thw FE990D and FN990D integrate the Qualcomm X85/82 5G Modem-RF 5G Advanced products, leveraging AI to enhance traffic prioritisation, optimise energy efficiency, reduce latency and improve location accuracy.

Both products support NB-IoT NTN for seamless satellite communication and align with 3GPP Release 18 for future-ready connectivity.

The FE990D comes in an LGA module, while the FN990D series is available in an M.2 form factor. For more details on Telit’s 5G portfolio, visit www.telit.com/modules-overview/cellular-5g.

The modules are powered by the Qualcomm X85/82 5G Modem-RF, which features the Qualcomm AI Stack and offers easy access to AI models via the Qualcomm AI Hub. With the AI Hub, users can convert trained models, such as those from PyTorch and Onnx, to inference on the device. They can also profile these models on the device to obtain detailed metrics and verify numerical correctness by running on-device inference.

Use cases include: fixed wireless access, enterprise and industrial networking, professional video broadcasting and surveillance with seamless 4K and 8K streaming, customisable connectivity optimised with Next data plans, and NB-IoT NTN satellite-based communication for remote and underserved areas.

“The launch of the FE990D and FN990D by Telit Cinterion represents a significant milestone in our long-standing and robust collaboration in which we’ve worked together to revolutionise 5G and IoT,” said Gautam Sheoran, vice president at Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com). “We are proud that the Qualcomm X82 and X85 5G Modem-RF for 5G Advanced are the driving force behind these AI-powered 5G Advanced modules and data cards, enabling high speeds, low latency, high reliability, network elasticity, security and scalability to enhance the user experience.”

Marco Contento, vice president at Telit Cinterion (www.telit.com), added: “For over two decades, Qualcomm and Telit Cinterion collaborated to bring groundbreaking technologies to market. With the FE990D and FN990D, we continue that legacy by delivering AI-powered, NB-IoT NTN-enabled, and Release 18-ready options that maximise performance, reliability and long-term viability for OEMs, system integrators and their customers.”
