Italian firm Seco is this month making available engineering samples of a system-on-module (SoM) for IoT and edge-computing applications.
Samples of the SoM-Smarc-QCS5430 will let early adopters evaluate the capabilities of this module, which combines processing, AI capabilities and low power consumption. Targeted applications include industrial automation, robotics, smart cities and surveillance.
Powered by Qualcomm’s QCS5430 processor, the module (edge.seco.com/usa/som-smarc-qcs5430.html) balances performance, efficiency and scalability within a 50 by 82mm footprint.
Compliant with the Smarc Rel 2.1.1 specification, it is for applications requiring small form factor designs without compromising on functionality. The QCS5430 processor offers AI and camera capabilities, and high-performance computing, all while maintaining low power consumption. It also provides scope for field software-based upgrades of the CPU and GPU to unlock performance tailored to specific applications.
It integrates the Qualcomm Kryo 670 CPU. The Qualcomm AI engine supports on-device machine learning and AI inference, enabling real-time data processing, computer vision and edge AI applications. The integrated Qualcomm Adreno 642L GPU enhances graphics performance, supporting resolutions of up to FHD+ at 120fps on the primary display and up to 4K Ultra HD at 60Hz on a secondary display.
Dual Mipi-CSI interfaces enable high-quality camera integration, complementing the processor’s edge AI camera capabilities. Connectivity options include USB 3.1, USB 2.0, PCI-e Gen3 lanes, various serial interfaces, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and optional wifi and BT 5.0.
The module is designed to operate reliably in industrial and commercial IoT applications, with variants supporting temperature ranges from -30 to +85˚C or 0 to +60˚C.
To support evaluation and integration of the SoM, Seco offers a development kit designed to facilitate the rapid prototyping and deployment of connected, versatile applications. The Dev-Kit-Smarc (edge.seco.com/usa/dev-kit-smarc.html) includes all necessary components for a seamless start-to-development process, featuring a carrier board compliant with Smarc Rel 2.1.1 modules and connectivity tools tailored for diverse industrial needs. With the kit, developers can adapt the SoM to specific use cases, shaping product features to meet their needs.
The development kit also facilitates interconnected application development with Clea (clea.ai), Seco’s software suite for the IoT. Clea enables device management, remote over-the-air updates and complex data analysis performed directly on the Smarc module, and communication to the cloud as needed. Compatible with any cloud provider, Clea scales seamlessly from small applications to large, widely distributed enterprise deployments.
Engineering samples of the SoM will be available in limited quantities for a short time.
Seco also offer the SoM-Smarc-QCS6490 (edge.seco.com/en_eu/som-smarc-qcs6490.html), featuring the QCS6490 processor. This platform is tailored for industrial IoT applications requiring high-end performance and low power consumption. With its octa-core Kryo 670 CPU and up to 12Tops performance powered by the Qualcomm’s AI engine, it is engineered for demanding environment. Samples for this variant will also be available soon.
