Toppan Edge has teamed up with Partisia to deliver a privacy-focused digital identity offering tailored for the electronics and IoT sectors.
Leveraging Danish company Partisia’s decentralised identity technology, blockchain and multi-party computation (MPC), this partnership addresses the critical need for secure identity verification without compromising sensitive data. It is designed to scale globally, aligning with Japan’s trusted-web initiative and Europe’s eIDAS regulation, ensuring seamless integration into IoT-driven environments.
Toppan Edge, a Japanese specialist in business information management, brings its expertise in access control and hardware to the table. Partisia, an innovator in MPC and cryptographic privacy, contributes its decentralised identity platform, enabling secure, user-controlled data sharing. This collaboration empowers individuals to manage their digital identity wallets, selectively verifying information while maintaining full privacy, suitable for IoT applications where secure data exchange is paramount.
“By combining Toppan Edge’s expertise in access control with Partisia’s privacy-enhancing technologies, this partnership will set a new market standard and usher in an era of innovation,” said Mark Medum Bundgaard, chief product officer at Partisia.
The offering integrates human and object identities through digital identity wallets, paving the way for secure, privacy-preserving interactions in IoT ecosystems. This is particularly relevant for smart devices, where data confidentiality and integrity are critical.
“Together, Toppan Edge and Partisia are creating the foundation that will drive a new data economy, where private data can be utilised without compromising confidentiality, integrity or availability,” said Kurt Nielsen, CEO of Partisia. “We are excited to support Toppan Edge on this journey towards the trusted web.”
Beyond digital identities, Toppan Edge and Partisia are exploring Web3 applications, focusing on IoT and self-sovereign identity (SSI) via Partisia blockchain. This platform ensures data security while enabling scalable, decentralised options for IoT networks, creating a robust framework for connected devices.
The software lets users securely manage private data from mobile devices, enhancing portability and protection in IoT environments.
“Japan is embracing blockchain technology to develop decentralised options for secure, verifiable identities,” said Masatoshi Oka, senior general manager at Toppan Edge. “By combining this with our identity solution, we’re making sure that privacy is never compromised, whether on the holder, issuer or verifier side.”
Bundgaard added: “In terms of digital personal information management, there has been a growing awareness of issues related to IT platforms that amass large amounts of personal data. This has led to the rise of SSI. The partnership supports Japan’s trusted web initiative for secure, decentralised data-sharing and strengthens ties with Europe through eIDAS compliance, fostering innovation in global IoT ecosystems. We are delivering an innovation that holds the potential to strengthen connections between Japan and Europe. At Partisia, privacy is at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to support Toppan Edge as they work towards secure, software-based alternatives that align with both Japanese and European privacy standards.”
