Singapore mobile telco M1 has launched commercial 5G RedCap services for enterprise customers.

This deployment of 5G-Advanced strengthens M1’s 5G offerings and represents the first publicly known launch of RedCap services for the enterprise space in south-east Asia.

RedCap technology serves as a bridge between legacy IoT technologies and full 5G deployments, offering higher reliability, lower latency, extended battery life, reduced costs, improved coverage and enhanced security features critical for enterprise applications.

The addition of 5G RedCap strengthens M1’s suite of 5G features that are already commercially available to enterprises. This technology complements M1’s existing 5G capabilities including network slicing, speed priority, VIP access, and 5G downlink and uplink carrier aggregation, all designed to meet the connectivity needs of businesses across diverse industries.

M1’s 5G offerings are supported by one of Singapore’s most extensive networks, featuring 5G SA (standalone) coverage across the entire island and maritime 5G coverage along the southern coast of Singapore.

“M1 is establishing the benchmark for business connectivity in the region,” said Andrew Cheng, M1’s chief of enterprise services. “By being the first in south-east Asia to offer 5G RedCap network services in the enterprise space, we are enabling our business customers to gain competitive advantages through more efficient, reliable and scalable connections. This represents our strategic investment in the future of enterprise connectivity, and positions us at the forefront of the region’s next generation of business-focused IoT and industrial connectivity.”

M1’s offering leverages Nokia’s 5G RedCap technology, which extends 5G to use cases that do not require full 5G capabilities, and supports the expansion of the 5G ecosystem with industrial IoT devices and low-power wearables. This allows operators to deliver a wider range of services to a larger number of devices on their 5G networks, accelerating the deployment of IoT across various industries.

“The introduction of 5G RedCap will unlock new opportunities for many industries, with potentially billions of new devices connected with 5G,” said Jae Won, senior vice president at Nokia (www.nokia.com). “With RedCap, we are supporting M1 to expand connectivity options for its enterprise customers, enabling secure, efficient and sustainable business-critical operations.”

Cheng added: “M1’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art connectivity is further strengthened by this partnership with Nokia, ensuring that customers benefit from the latest advancements in 5G technology. By introducing this pioneering technology to Singapore’s enterprise market, we’re demonstrating our commitment to bringing the most advanced connectivity to business customers. This launch builds upon our established enterprise portfolio, which includes our 5G capabilities that are already helping businesses transform their operations today.”

To ensure compatibility and availability of devices that can leverage this new technology, M1 (www.m1.com.sg) has partnered with Ransnet (ransnet.com), a local device manufacturer specialising in IoT and connectivity. This collaboration will accelerate the development and deployment of RedCap-compatible devices tailored for enterprise customers in Singapore.
