Chicago-based Littelfuse has expanded its NanoT tactile switch product line for applications in smart wearables, wireless headsets, portable medical devices and IoT systems.
The series features miniature, surface-mounted, waterproof tactile switches, now including operational force options and top- and side-actuated models.
Design engineers require smaller switch interfaces as the market demand for smaller, high-performance electronics grows, driven by innovations in healthcare, wearables and battery-powered IoT devices. The expanded NanoT series is said to be the smallest tactile switch on the market, providing flexibility for engineers to integrate additional functionality or reduce PCB size.
“The NanoT switch combines space efficiency with high reliability, featuring short actuation travel, IP67-rated durability, and a wide operating temperature range from -40 to +85˚C,” said Junbao Chen, design centre manager at Littelfuse. “Its ultra-compact size and ease of PCB and FPC integration make it ideal for confined spaces, while the haptic feedback ensures a satisfying user experience, optimising designs and improving product quality.”
The side-actuated model measures 2.2 by 1.70 by 1.65mm and the top-actuated model 2.1 by 1.65 by 0.55mm. They are available with customisable actuation forces with 100, 160 and 240gf options. The 100gf unit is suitable for high-frequency use reducing user fatigue, the 160gf balances tactile feedback for general applications, and the 240gf requires firm activation.
There are PIP or SMT edge-mount versions offering better resistance to shock and shear, extending equipment life, and reducing the need for extra protective layers. Life cycles ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 ensuring long-term reliability and reduced maintenance costs.
Their IP67 rating means they are dust-tight and waterproof, ensuring reliability in difficult environments.
They are available in tape and reel format in quantities of 8000 pieces for the top actuated version and 7500 for the side actuated version.
