Once the industry can see end-to-end security for the IoT, adoption of the technologies will grow quickly, believes Duane Wald (pictured), vice-president at MultiTech, speaking at last week’s Embedded World in Nuremberg.
 
The main thrust of the company’s stand was the recently launched Conduit 300 gateway developer kit with mPower edge intelligence that enables streamlined edge-to-cloud orchestration, management and analytics with a secure processor to support dockers and containers.
 
It has a 16-channel LoRaWan gateway with dual high-speed Ethernet ports and an embedded MultiTech Dragonfly LTE Cat 4 cellular radio.
 
“We have a leading position with our LoRaWan gateways,” said Wald. “We have announced this upgrade and one of the key features is integration for dockers and containers.”
 
He said that LoRaWan lent itself well to public infrastructure as well as private networks.
 
“We are seeing spectrum being opened up for private LTE deployments,” he said. “This is for critical infrastructure applications and we are seeing them being used in oil and gas and mining industries.”
 
The Conduit 300 is driven by a secure Texas Instruments Sitara processor that has the portability and scalability for future deployments.
 
Wald was not worried about the smaller number of visitors at the show caused by coronavirus fears because it gave him more chance to talk with other IoT companies.
 
“We have the chance to network with other technology companies to see how we can work together,” he said. “The IoT is a case of lots of technologies working in harmony. We have to work together on this.”
 
He said he was seeing people at the show with use cases that still needed work.
 
“They are looking at the technology that is available to them,” he said, “and how they can implement these for their businesses.”
