Heliot has combined UK and Danish Sigfox networks with its existing IoT network infrastructure in Europe.

Earlier this year, Heliot acquired the Sigfox network operations of WND in the UK and IoT Denmark in Denmark. It has now fully integrated both operations.

Heliot’s IoT network serves over 1.3m devices in Europe. Additional IoT technologies, such as LoRa and Mioty, will also be offered.

This achievement reinforces Heliot’s Sigfox 0G network and increases IoT growth opportunities in these countries. Customers should benefit from a seamless European service as Heliot consolidates these businesses into its organisation and closely cooperates with its peers in Europe. Moreover, through this acquisition, Heliot now confirms its position as the largest operator of IoT sub-gigahertz 0G-WAN infrastructure and supporting services in Europe, dedicated to supporting the convergence of sub-gigahertz radio protocols on its networks and in its geographies.

“With existing professional network operations in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and Liechtenstein, Heliot is already well represented in the heart of Europe,” said Thomas Scheibel, CEO of Heliot in Europe. “This acquisition and expansion of network operations in the UK, Northern Ireland and Denmark is therefore the next logical step in our growth strategy. Equally, these acquisitions open up completely new opportunities for us, providing us greater reach into these regions. We strongly believe in these markets, and the growth opportunities that are available in these neighbouring markets. Furthermore, we are pleased that UnaBiz, the new owner of the Sigfox technology, is happy to entrust Heliot with the confidence and capabilities to operate its network in three additional countries in Europe, a responsibility that we take seriously and are fully committed to.”

Through this consolidation, integration and expansion, Heliot plans to optimise its networks to meet customer-specific needs. For example, it has fully integrated the UK and Denmark organisations into its existing pan-European business. This will result in enhancements to its offering to the market and an expansion of its technology portfolio, including LoRa based protocols Mioty, RFID and Wiliot.

“The UK and Denmark are typically at the forefront of technology usage and adoption,” said Patrick Griffin, chief commercial officer at Heliot. “Integrating these regions into our wider Heliot Europe proposition enables innovative knowledge sharing that can only benefit all of our partners and customers. For instance, we’re actively collaborating across the region to create innovative use cases of IoT in the supply chain, logistics and packaging sectors; for smart cities; energy and water utility sectors; and for facilities management. The UK, in particular, has been a pioneer of IoT technologies for years. The time is ripe for IoT to scale across the UK and Europe, and our expertise and exciting expansion in this space gives Heliot and our customers a competitive advantage.”

Heliot is the exclusive operator of the global Sigfox 0G network in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and Liechtenstein. This makes Heliot Europe the largest 0G network operator in Europe. Heliot’s main shareholder is Cube Infrastructure Managers, a Luxembourg-based investment company specialising in the management of European infrastructure funds. Heliot is also a founding member of the 0G United Nations Association, the international association of 0G network operators with over 55 network operators worldwide.
