Spanish firm Fractus Antennas has joined the IoT M2M Council (IMC) to promote its virtual antenna technology.

A virtual antenna is adaptable technology for connected devices. Fractus has joined the IIMC, the world’s largest trade group serving qualified adopters of IoT, to promote its products.

Fractus Antennas of Barcelona is the latest IoT provider to join the IMC board of governors as a sustaining company and will look to expand the demand for its antenna technology into a broad range of IoT sensor applications for cellular IoT, LoRaWan, Wifi 6E and GNSS markets, among others. For its part, the IMC will offer Fractus Antennas platforms such as online events to reach its 25,000 enterprise user and product makers in 27 different vertical IoT markets around the world.

A virtual antenna element is an adaptable and multiband antenna component embedded in devices that allow them to communicate through a wide range of network connectivity, from 5G and wifi to low-power wide-area, using the same component regardless of the form factor and frequency band.

“Virtual antennas take the complexity out of embedded design; the antenna adapts to the client, not the other way around,” said Jaap Groot, CEO of Fractus Antennas and the company’s representative on the IMC board of governors. “The IMC is an excellent platform for reaching IoT buyers, and we will use it to spread the word about our solutions, already implemented in millions of IoT sensors, as we believe virtual antenna will become a dominant technology in IoT edge and multi-radio access devices.”

The IMC is the exclusive IoT infrastructure partner for the Consumer Electronics Show and Hannover Messe, the world’s largest consumer products and manufacturing shows, respectively. As such, the association organises IoT pavilions and conferences on-site.

Additionally, and for the first time, the IMC will put on a series of full-scale digital events in 2021.

“IMC’s first full-scale digital event held in September and October of this year attracted more than 1000 registrants, 70% of whom identified as buyers,” said Sara Brown, IMC chair and VP of marketing at IoT hardware provider MultiTech. “These are best-in-class numbers.”

The IMC is the largest trade group dedicated to the global IoT and M2M sector with more than 25,000 IoT enterprise users, product makers, designers and apps developers that buy IoT products as members.

Board sustainer companies include 1nce, Aeris, Amazon Web Services, AV System, BeamLive, Bics, Digi International, Fractus Antennas, HPE, iBasis, IoT Launch, Kore, Losant, MultiTech, NimbeLink, Pod Group, Taoglas, Tata Communications, Telit, U-Blox and Vodafone.
