Finite State, an influential provider of platforms for securing connected devices, has joined the board of the IoT M2M Council (IMC), the largest trade association dedicated to the global IoT sector.
Finite State plans to use IMC programmes to build awareness of a holistic approach to IoT security that covers IoT device manufacturers and users. For its part, the IMC has just launched a joint task force with the Global Certification Forum (www.iotm2mcouncil.org/iot-library/news/iot-newsdesk/gcf-and-imc-to-evaluate-iot-security-certification) to investigate the same kind of holistic approach to IoT security via certification programmes.
“We look at the IMC as the only go-to-market tool for covering the breadth of IoT markets,” said Matt Wyckhouse, CEO of Finite State (finitestate.io), who will represent the company on the IMC board. “We need to engage and educate both IoT providers, as well as people who are deploying IoT technology. We think the IMC will help us build awareness of and demand for end-to-end security that covers connected devices, software and beyond.”
Finite State’s platform drives security throughout the connected product development lifecycle, from source code to final firmware, to secure the device supply chain and mitigate risks. Among many use cases are software supply chain security, vulnerability management, SBoM (software bill of materials) management, software composition analysis, incident response, cyber compliance, and licensing risk management to help organisations mitigate vulnerabilities in IoT deployments and supply chains.
In June 2024, the company merged with MergeBase, another provider of software supply-chain products for connected devices and embedded technology.
“We are excited that Finite State is joining us for the new joint task force on IoT security and we’re looking forward to benefitting from their perspective,” said Sri Ramachandran, IMC chairman and CTO of device security registry provider Somos. “The industry is crying out for clarity and efficiency in ensuring security for IoT deployments. We see this as essential and central to the IMC mission.”
