At last week’s NetworkX show in Paris, Fibocom launched 5G FWA modules powered by Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Qualcomm’s X85 and X82 modem-RF systems power the FG200 and FG201 5G modules, alongside customised devices for indoor CPE, outdoor ODU and mobile hotspots, addressing diverse connectivity needs across homes, enterprises and mobility scenarios.

MediaTek’s T930 platform is at the heart of the FG390-NA module, featuring RF integration and compliance with North American operator requirements, alongside multi-terminal products for indoor IDUs and outdoor ODUs. Leveraging the T930’s cellular capabilities and AI integration, these products are positioned as a core driver for AI-enabled smart homes and intelligent edge platforms.

The FG200 and FG201 modules support 5G-Advanced features, including upgraded carrier aggregation and uplink, and simplify development with broad software compatibility. Integrated 5G AI processing enables intelligent applications across homes, enterprises and industrial use cases.

With pin-to-pin compatibility with Qualcomm’s previous SDX75 and X72 RF design, the FG200 and FG201 support seamless platform upgrades, accelerating time to market. Their 5G connectivity, combined with AI capabilities, also empowers hybrid AI and AI agent experiences, laying a foundation for future intelligent devices.

“Qualcomm remains committed to advancing the 5G FWA ecosystem with industry-leading modem-to-antenna technology,” said Gautam Sheoran, senior vice president at Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com). “Fibocom’s X85 and X82-based products further demonstrate the momentum of FWA, a category we helped pioneer, and allows 5G carriers to deliver enhanced 5G-Advanced performance and dependability, and reinforces our dedication to building a smarter, more connected world.”

Simon Tao, vice president at Fibocom (www.fibocom.com), added; “Fibocom’s collaboration with Qualcomm has always centred on addressing user needs with cutting-edge technologies. The new X85 and X82-based FWA portfolio not only represents the realisation of 5G-Advanced but also provides a solid foundation for AI agents to integrate into everyday life and work. Moving forward, we will continue to drive FWA applications towards intelligent, full-scenario connectivity, delivering smarter and more reliable services for users.”

The FG390-NA module, built on RF front-end technology and Fibocom’s 5G FWA expertise, delivers a dedicated architecture tailored for North American operators. Compatible with T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and other major carriers, it provides wireless access for multi-dwelling units, rural broadband and enterprise networks, supporting accelerated 5G deployment across the region.

In terms of performance, it supports six-carrier aggregation (6CC CA) and 400MHz downlink bandwidth, achieving up to 9.35Gbit/s downlink on North American sub-6GHz networks. Its 3Tx technology, combined with a high-linearity RF front end, enables 240MHz uplink bandwidth and peak speeds of 2.8Gbit/s, while L4S technology ensures low latency and scalable throughput. Compared with the previous T830-based modules, it delivers significant improvements in speed and latency, supporting applications such as 4K and 8K video streaming and cloud gaming.

Additionally, it incorporates high-power PC1.5 uplink and enhanced 8Rx 3CC 200MHz technology, providing up to 40% greater coverage and improved connection stability, reducing the basestation density required by operators. Leveraging the experience from T830 and RDK-B and Purpl OS deployments, Fibocom ensures a smooth transition of mature technology to the FG390 series, enabling users to capitalise quickly on operator-specific opportunities.

“Over the course of our partnership, we have achieved numerous breakthroughs across tier-one operator markets worldwide,” said Evan Su, general manager of wireless communications at MediaTek (www.mediatek.com).

Tao added: “With the projected growth of the FWA market over the next three to five years, our collaboration with MediaTek focuses on addressing specific scenario pain points. Moving forward, leveraging the AI capabilities of the T930 NPU, we aim to empower efficient collaboration in smart offices, seamless device integration in smart homes and ubiquitous connectivity for smart cities. Fibocom remains committed to refining 5G technology and advancing product, technology, and application synergies with MediaTek to bring high-quality 5G connectivity to diverse scenarios.”
