IoT connectivity provider Digi International has announced new and expanded support for Linux and improved Microsoft Windows functionality with its USB connectivity solution, Digi AnywhereUSB Plus.

Users across a wide variety of industries employ the Digi AnywhereUSB Plus solution for secure and scalable connectivity between peripheral devices and PCs. The new release offers broad support for multiple Linux distributions as well as running headless or without a GUI. This allows greater flexibility for developers and system integrators who rely on Linux platforms.

The new Linux and Windows support comes as industries increasingly adopt SOM-based IIoT and IoT devices to leverage the power of 5G networks. These devices demand robust and reliable software solutions for optimal performance. With enhanced Linux support and improved Windows functionality, Digi aims to provide developers with the tools to create and maintain high-performing and scalable solutions.

“With the increased adoption of SOM-based IIoT and IoT devices for 5G, it is imperative to ensure software reliability at scale through rigorous validation and verification,” said Ben Tucker, Director of Product Management for Infrastructure Management at Digi International. “The enhanced support for Linux and improved functionality on Windows platforms in Digi AnywhereUSB Plus provides SOM manufacturers, system integrators, and software developers with the robust, flexible, and scalable tools necessary to meet the stringent demands of IIoT and IoT infrastructure.”

The new update includes expanded Linux support. Digi AnywhereUSB Plus and AnywhereUSB Manager now offer broad support for multiple Linux distributions, including headless operation, providing greater flexibility for developers and system integrators who rely on Linux platforms to develop and test their projects. Enhancements to Microsoft Windows support also ensure integration and usability across different environments. Digi AnywhereUSB Plus enables devices to connect to a network over USB, providing a secure, versatile, and scalable way to manage USB devices remotely. This makes the solution suitable for virtualized environments and data centres where USB devices need to be remotely managed, eliminating the need for direct USB connections.

Coupled with the AnywhereUSB Manager software, configuring and managing these connections is simplified. Additionally, with product purchase, users benefit from 1 Year of Digi Lifecycle Assurance including robust 24/7 Expert technical support and Premier Access to Digi Remote Manager — Digi’s command centre for network control — and best-in-class 5-year warranty, further enhancing the reliability and sustainability of their USB connectivity solutions.
