Comms365 has added Vodafone NB-IoT connectivity to its network capability. The private APN NB-IoT connectivity will use the firm’s network to drive demand for the IoT.
UK-based Comms365, a network services and IoT infrastructure company, launched the NB-IoT offering to complement its IoT connectivity portfolio. This provides a direct connection between Comms365 and Vodafone networks, enabling the deployment of NB-IoT devices.
The company has released this latest IoT connectivity option following the success of its private LoRaWan deployments.
“The internet of things has been billed as the dawn of a new age, with wild industry claims about billions of devices being connected,” said Mike van Bunnens (pictured), managing director of Comms365. “While there is no doubt that IoT, in its many forms, is leading a disruptive charge on the market, there are many components of IoT that are already quietly incorporating themselves into daily life. Sensors that are based around LPWAN (low-power wide area networking) can be produced in the smallest of forms, using very little power, and can operate on a single battery for months or, in many cases, years.”
He said this addition to its IoT portfolio was “great news” for IoT projects that required small amounts of data over long periods of time, many positioned in hard to reach places.
“Our technology and infrastructure include many variants of connectivity, including fixed line and cellular, through to newer LPWAN services such as LoRaWan and NB-IoT,” he said. “As we’ve said before, a successful IoT strategy should be built around real challenges and not all can achieve these objectives using the same technology, and that’s why we have built a network with diverse capabilities.”
The Vodafone NB-IoT network is expanding rapidly with geographies added daily.
“We have been working with Vodafone since 2009, firstly with their private APN M2M services and now we are delighted that we have taken the decision to further utilise Vodafone’s extensive IoT by launching our own private APN NB-IoT offering, which uses our interconnected networks,” he said. “We look forward to deploying advanced LPWAN services as part of the internet of things.”
He said the firm was offering a portfolio of connectivity alongside its IoT portal, storage and analytics platforms and was introducing users to its ecosystem of integrated IoT partners.
“We look forward to helping businesses and public sector bodies achieve their goals utilising the most appropriate technology,” he said.
