California-based Cavli Wireless has introduced LTE Cat 4 modules to accelerate the development of smart IoT products.

The CQS315 and CQS325 modules are designed to meet the evolving needs of connected automotive and smart IoT applications. Offering connectivity, processing power and multimedia features, they can help OEMs build and deploy connected systems.

The CQS315 and CQS325 are powered by Qualcomm’s SM6115 and SM6225 baseband chipsets, respectively. They deliver LTE Cat 4 connectivity, supporting downlink speeds up to 150Mbit/s and uplink speeds up to 50Mbit/s, and suit applications that require fast and efficient data transfer, ensuring seamless performance in real-time connections. Both offer optional integrated eSIM capability, enabling global connectivity through the firm’s Hubble IoT connectivity and modem management platform, making them suitable for international deployment.

Both are engineered in LCC+LGA form factors, providing flexible integration options for OEMs. They come in Android 13 and Linux operating system variants for vehicle-mounted devices, PoS systems or industrial IoT applications.

The CQS315 has an octa-core Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU that delivers computational efficiency for IoT applications. The CQS325, equipped with the octa-core Kryo 265 CPU with higher clock speeds, suits automotive, industrial, and multimedia tasks. These processors enable real-time data processing, diagnostics and the seamless execution of connected services.

The modules have an Adreno 610 GPU and Hexagon DSP, which are critical for rendering high-quality graphics, image processing and AI-powered applications. The Adreno GPU ensures high-quality visual rendering and smooth user interfaces, while the Hexagon DSP enhances the capability of edge computing for real-time analytics and AI-driven decision-making.

Both come with at least 2GbyteB LPDDR4X RAM and 16Gbyte eMMC ROM. The CQS315 can be expanded up to 4Gbyte LPDDR4X RAM and 64Gbyte eMMC ROM, while the CQS325 can support up to 6Gbyte LPDDR4X RAM and 64Gbyte eMMC ROM. Additionally, the CQS315 offers leaner variants, featuring 1Gbyte LPDDR4X RAM with 4 or 8Gbyte eMMC ROM running on Linux.

They are equipped with multi-constellation GNSS (L1), supporting GPS, Glonass, Galileo, Beidou, QZSS and SBAS. The CQS325, however, provides enhanced positioning capabilities with dual-band (L1+L5) GNSS support, including NavIC, ensuring accuracy for navigation-based products.

Both modules have a Mipi-DSI interface capable of supporting Full HD+ resolution displays up to 2520 x 1080 pixels at 60Hz, making them suitable for vehicle infotainment systems and smart kiosks. Additionally, they support up to three cameras via the CSI interface, enabling applications such as multi-camera dashcams and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

For automotive and smart transportation, the modules’ combination of three-camera support, Adreno 610 GPU and DSI interface enables rich visual and interactive applications, making them suitable for smart dashcams, in-vehicle infotainment and smart cluster displays. The octa-core Snapdragon processor, along with high-bandwidth LTE Cat 4 connectivity, allows use cases such as real-time video streaming, graphics rendering and ADAS, enhancing driver safety and user experience.

For Industry 4.0 and industrial intelligence, the high data throughput, processing power, and Android and Linux compatibility make them suitable for real-time machinery monitoring, predictive maintenance and process automation in smart factories. The built-in Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi 5 capabilities allow for wireless peripheral communication between machines and backend systems, improving operational efficiency, reducing downtime and enabling remote diagnostics. With support for large memory configurations (up to 4 to 6Gbyte RAM and 64Gbyte eMMC storage), these modules can handle complex data analytics and automation tasks.

In retail and commercial applications, they are suitable for smart PoS systems, vending machines and cash registers. The eSIM capability allows for secure global connectivity, while USB 3.1/2.0, Bluetooth and wifi support ensures seamless transactions and real-time inventory updates. The Snapdragon CPU and Adreno GPU enable multimedia-rich customer interfaces, while the DSI interface for touchscreen LCDs facilitates interactive experiences, streamlining transaction processes and improving the user experience.

For smart homes and connected consumer devices, support for Android, Linux, Bluetooth 5.0, Wifi 5 and multi-camera setups empowers applications such as smart security systems, video intercoms and smart audio-visual devices with virtual assistants. With the Adreno 610 GPU and processing power, the modules can handle complex multimedia tasks, making them suitable for home security, video recording and entertainment devices, while the GNSS feature adds value in tracking and location-based applications for smart home automation.

The CQS315 (www.cavliwireless.com/iot-modules/c-series/cqs315) and CQS325 (www.cavliwireless.com/iot-modules/c-series/cqs325) modules are integrated with Cavli Hubble for remote diagnosis, monitoring and debugging of the modules’ network parameters. This eliminates the need for physical intervention, streamlining the deployment and management of connections. The Hubble Stack ensures users benefit from real-time monitoring, device management and seamless integration across IoT products.

“The unveiling of CQS315 and CQS325 modules reiterates Cavli’s commitment to innovating technologies that enable OEMs and ODMs to develop connections that are future-proof,” said John Mathew, CEO of Cavli Wireless. “These modules combine the best in processing power, multimedia capabilities and seamless connectivity for smart IoT applications. By offering advanced features and the flexibility of Android and Linux operating systems, Cavli enables OEMs to power the future of connected vehicle technologies.”
