Taiwanese embedded technology company Advantech is using the AMD Ryzen V2000 devices in Mini-ITX and Com Express products for edge AI and IoT applications.

The AMD devices are built using 7nm process technology. The Zen 2 cores and AMD Radeon graphics package deliver performance combined with low power consumption. The optimised architecture offers 15 per cent improved performance in instructions per clock, with a higher number of cores delivering up to 30 per cent better single-thread CPU performance and up to 40 per cent enhanced graphics performance when compared with the previous generation.

The systems are suited to markets such as retail, medical, automation and gaming, as well as embedded applications in thin client, Mini PC and edge systems.

The first samples of the upcoming products – the Som-6872 Com Express module and the AIMB-229 Mini iTX – will be available at the beginning of 2021. Both use an AMD embedded Ryzen 7nm SoC with V2000 APU and eight cores with 16 threads. TDP ratings of 12 to 25W and 35 to 54W are available, in the FP5 BGA footprint.

Each system has a seventh generation Radeon graphics core, with up to seven computing units running at 1.6GHz. Decode and encode for H.265 are supplied as standard with 10b HEVC.

Four independent video streams use four independent display pipes. Dual channel memory offers up to 64Gbyte.

The Som-6872 includes up to three DDI ports; DP1.4 HDCP 2.3; HDMI HDCP 1.4 and 2.3; LVDS 2-CH 18 and 24bit; eDP1.3; and VGA.

The AIMB-229 comes with two DP++ via USB-C connector; two HDMI 2.0; two LAN ports; eight USB ports; two M.2 slots; 1-bit GPIO; six Com ports; and TPM.

Further V2000 products are set to be launched by Advantech during 2021.

“Our customers rely on us to deliver innovative embedded products with superior performance and reliable hardware design to accelerate the revolution of edge AIoT applications,” said Rex Lee, director at Advantech. “The planned longevity with CPU and GPU integration of the V2000 series from AMD will help us continue to offer leading performance to the embedded market.”
